A robot equipped with artificial intelligence, known as the Autonomous Road Repair System (ARRES), is set to undergo testing on public roads in Hertfordshire.
Developed by tech firm Robotiz3d and the University of Liverpool in collaboration with the county council, the robot identifies potential potholes and fills them to prevent water damage.
Funding for the project, initiated in 2020, has been primarily provided by Innovate UK. The technology, proven effective in lab tests, will now be implemented for “real-life” road repairs in residential areas, to preserve the road network and prevent future potholes.
